About hashing

Hash functions reduce arbitrary data to a fixed-length fingerprint. They are useful for integrity checks, deduplication, and digital signatures. All computation happens locally in your browser.

  • A hash is one-way — you cannot recover the input.
  • Same input always produces the same output.
  • Use SHA-256 or SHA-512 for new code.
  • Use bcrypt or argon2 for password storage.
